What is XRP and the XRP Ledger Network?
XRP is a cryptocurrency aiming to increase the speed and reduce the cost of transferring money between financial institutions. XRP is used as a bridge currency for financial institutions exchanging value between multiple fiat currencies. XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger, an open-source cryptographic ledger powered by a peer-to-peer network of nodes administered by Ripple.

XRP addresses use Tags to identify transaction recipients
Tags are used by shared (custodial) wallets to identify and credit individual accounts.
They are often a numeric string, e.g. 123456789.
If you use Approved Addresses you will be able to include the Tag field when adding XRP address (X-addresses). The tag string is tied to a specific address.
Receiving XRP into Gemini (Depositing)
Receiving XRP via the XRP Ledger Network into Gemini requires both the X-Address and XRP tag fields to be filled out to identify the proper individual account as Gemini uses a shared address.
When viewing the Receive XRP screen you will see both the XRP X-Address and XRP Tag strings. Copy and Paste both values and include them in your transfer to Gemini. Failure to do so may result in loss of funds.

Sending XRP from Gemini (Withdrawing)
Sending to a shared wallet
A shared (custodial) wallet can be associated with multiple accounts. Tags are used to identify incoming deposits and credit XRP to the proper individual account. Please ensure you enter the tag exactly as instructed. Failure to do so may result in loss of funds.
If you'd like to send (withdraw) XRP from your Gemini account, please navigate to the Withdrawal Page Here.
Sending to a private wallet
Sending to a private non-custodial wallet (e.g. Trustwallet) does not require a tag. It is optional.
Note for UK customers:
As of 17th November 2023, only transfers of ERC-20 tokens, ETH, and BTC are supported on Gemini. Whilst you can still freely trade and hold these unsupported tokens within Gemini, we will be removing the unsupported tokens from deposit and withdrawal options, with the exception of transfers to and from a self-hosted wallet.
