Here are the possible reasons why your withdrawal balance is lower than your account balance:
All currencies / geographies
- Account Verification
- Unverified Bank Account
- Open order(s)
USD / United States based customers
- Pending Bank Transfer (ACH)
- Returned Bank Transfer (ACH)
- Pending PayPal deposit
Note: this article covers withdrawing your fiat from Gemini to your bank account. If you are looking for help withdrawing your cryptocurrencies to an external cryptocurrency address, external exchange, or wallet, please click here.
If your account is not fully verified, you will need to complete registration to be able to withdraw your funds. You can view our registration requirements here.
If your bank account has not been verified, you will see your bank account marked as “Pending” on your Payment Methods page. In order for withdrawals to be enabled for this account, you will need to send a wire transfer from that bank account to verify the account.
OPEN ORDER(S)
If you have an open buy limit order, you will need to cancel it in order to be able to withdraw your fiat.
CRYPTO ASSETS NEEDING TO BE SOLD
A common reason for having no fiat available to withdraw is simply forgetting to sell one’s cryptocurrency holdings for fiat. For more information on how to sell crypto, please refer to this support page.
If you recently made a deposit with a Bank Transfer (ACH), the funds are pre-credited into your Gemini account so you can trade at our discretion but will not be available for withdrawal until the ACH deposit fully clears. All ACH deposits take four to five business days to clear, and the withdrawal hold will be active for the duration that the funds are in transit.
Although the funds may have left your bank account this does not indicate that they have reached your Gemini account.
Note: Business days do not include weekends and federal US holidays. Any transfer initiated on a non-business day will start processing on the next business day.
If you have a pending Bank Transfer (ACH) and attempt to withdraw USD before it has cleared, you will see a message that reads:
“You do not have any USD available for withdrawal”
United States Customers - RETURNED ACH BANK TRANSFER
If a Bank Transfer (ACH deposit) is returned to your bank account, your USD balance will be offset by the USD quantity that failed to reach us. If you have already used the pre-credited funds to buy cryptocurrency, we will debit your account with the same amount that was deposited. If this causes your account balance to go negative, you will have to deposit funds or sell off your cryptocurrency to bring your account balance back to positive.
If an ACH deposit has failed to reach our Gemini bank account, you will see a negative USD balance on your account balance page.
United States customers - PENDING PAYPAL DEPOSIT
If you have recently made a deposit or purchase using PayPal, the funds are pre-credited into your Gemini account but will not be available for withdrawal until the PayPal deposit fully clears. All PayPal deposits take 1-5 business days to clear.
