MATIC to POL Migration – Gemini

Overview

Polygon has introduced POL as part of its Polygon 2.0 upgrade, which transitions the network from a single chain to a unified ecosystem of Layer-2 chains. POL is designed to support restaking, governance, and scalability across this multi-chain environment.

To align with this network upgrade, Gemini will migrate all customer and treasury MATIC balances to POL at a 1:1 ratio. This will be a seamless, one-time migration that requires no action from customers.

Do I need to do anything to migrate my MATIC to POL?

No. The migration is automatic if your MATIC is held on Gemini before the migration date.

Can I keep MATIC instead of converting to POL?

Yes. If you prefer to retain MATIC, withdraw it from Gemini before 19th of August 2025 7:00 PM EST. Any MATIC left on Gemini at the time of migration will be converted to POL.

What happens to my staking rewards?

All staked MATIC (principal + rewards) was unstaked and credited to exchange accounts in June 2025. These balances are included in the migration.

When will POL trading be available?

POL/USD trading will be enabled on August 21, 2025 at 11:30 AM ET.

Which version of POL does Gemini support?

Gemini currently supports only the ERC-20 version of POL on Ethereum.

Can I deposit POL from the Polygon network?

No. Do not deposit native POL from the Polygon network. Such deposits are not recoverable.

What happens if I deposit MATIC after the migration?

Any MATIC deposited after the migration will remain as MATIC and will not be automatically converted to POL.

Will Gemini support native POL deposits and withdrawals?

Gemini is exploring support for native POL deposits and withdrawals in the future. Updates will be announced when available.

Is staking available for POL on Gemini?
