Yes, you can! Gemini has released the ability to purchase digital assets on the Gemini exchange using your debit card.
What are the Limits and Fees of using a card?
Using a debit card allows you to complete a trade instantly and will clear into our account in 48-72 hours, which will then lift the withdrawal hold. You can also set up a recurring buy with your debit card.
Limits
There is a limit of $500 on debit card purchases. This limit resets once the previous purchase clears in 48-72 hours. You cannot raise this limit by adding more cards. Your ACH limit and your debit limit are not related, and do not affect one another.
Withdrawals
Please note that only trades can be executed using your debit card. You can withdraw using a bank transfer (ACH) or wire withdrawal after the debit card purchase has been cleared between 48-72 hours.
Fees
There is a 3.49% fee applied to your order when you initiate a purchase with a debit card. For more information on mobile fees, see our mobile fee schedule.
What is an "ITA" fee?
Gemini’s fee schedules are publicly available here, and you should see the fees you’ll be charged when you place any trade on the Gemini Exchange.
Unfortunately, there are fees that are outside of Gemini’s control, which may be charged by your card issuer or bank. This includes any ITA fees, transaction fees, or foreign exchange fees that you may see on your statement.
We try to reduce impact to our customers, but do not have visibility into banks and card issuers that charge their customers for using Gemini. Gemini does not receive any of these fees from your bank or card issuer, therefore we are unable to refund them.
Accepted Cards
We accept Mastercard & Visa. We do not accept prepaid cards.
How do I add a debit card?
You can add a debit card by going to settings on your account, then funding sources methods. From there, please provide the name and billing address for your card, these must match the account holder.
After this, you will need to verify your card. You will see three small micro-deposits on your bank statement. These charges will be between $0.99 and $1.99 in value (or an equivalent in your local currency). To verify your card, we’ll ask that you please confirm the amount that was charged to you. Once verified, the charges will be reversed.
Debit Cards can be used to make instant purchases of digital assets. They can not be used to fund your balance.
You can link multiple cards to your Gemini account. You can set a default card, or select another card before purchase.
I cannot find the micro-deposits, how do I verify my debit card?
The micro-deposits should appear immediately on your bank statement. Please ensure that you are reviewing the correct transaction history, and that your information was directly added to the system. If the name or address of the card are different from that of the Gemini account, the card will not be accepted as a payment method.
If you would like to dispute a charge on your debit card and Gemini, please contact your debit card provider or your issuing bank. This may result in your Gemini account being frozen while the issue is investigated.
If you believe that there has been fraudulent use of your Debit card on Gemini, or that your account is compromised in any way, please contact Gemini support by submitting a ticket here, or by emailing support@gemini.com from the email address associated with your Gemini account.
