Gemini Credit Card rewards are applied based on the Merchant Category Code (MCC) assigned by the merchant’s acquiring bank or payment processor. Even if you purchase eligible items, the transaction will only earn the higher reward tier if the merchant is coded under an eligible category.
Here are some common reasons you may not receive the expected rate:
Costco, Sam’s Club, Walmart, or Target: These merchants are often not categorized under grocery MCCs, so purchases typically earn only 1% back, even if you are buying food or household goods.
Uber Eats or delivery services: These may not be coded as restaurants and could fall outside the dining MCC category.
Gas stations: Purchases made inside the store or at the kiosk (rather than directly at the pump) are not eligible for 4% back.
Grocery purchases at gas stations: If a gas station sells grocery items but is coded under a gas station MCC, it will earn the gas category rate (subject to monthly caps), or only 1% if outside the promotional tier.
Additionally:
The 4% back rate is capped at $300 in monthly spend. After that, purchases in that category will earn 1% for the rest of the calendar month.

How does the golf course rewards offer work?
You can earn 10% back in crypto on golf course purchases through September 30, 2025.
Eligible purchases may include green fees, driving range fees, club rentals, pro shop items, and on-site food and beverages.
The merchant must be coded as a golf course by Mastercard’s Merchant Category Code system. Not all golf-related purchases will qualify if they are not correctly categorized.
